  • Out-of-state applicants  are welcome to apply   but must come to us to meet the animal

Adoption applications are processed Monday through Saturday, excluding major holidays, and it typically takes  1-2    days to get approved depending on how many applications we have waiting to be processed.   After you're approved, we will contact you via email to set up a meeting. Be sure to check your spam folder!   If you have any questions about your application or the adoption process, please contact Danielle, our Adoption  Coordinator, at

Due to the medical and behavioral problems it can cause, such as lameness and litter box aversion, SFTS does not condone declawing and our adoption contract prohibits it. If you want a declawed cat,  please consider adopting one who has already been declawed. We are more than happy to talk to you about healthy   alternatives to declawing as well, such as  nail caps   and scratching posts, and will teach   adopters how to trim nails. If you're interested in learning more about declawing and the negative side effects it can cause, please  read Cat Declawing: The Price of Convenience.

Adoption F.A.Q.

I already have an approved application or have adopted from you in the past, do I need to submit another?  No!   Simply email or call to let us know which animal you're interested in    and if your email, home address, vet, or phone number has changed.

Does SFTS conduct home visits?  Due to time restraints,   limited resources, and safety concerns   we do not conduct home visits   nor do we ask for  pictures/videos of your home.

Do you offer financial aid   or discounts to seniors, vets, &   low income individuals? SFTS is a non-profit that receives no state funding and relies solely on grants, donations, and adoption fees to operate   so we're unable to offer  discounts at this time. However,    adopters who complete a training class within 4 months  will receive a $25 rebate, and we are    more than happy to work with adopters   on overcoming financial obstacles.  Below is a list of local resources that may be helpful!

Do you offer trial periods or foster-to-adopt? Due to limited resources   and for the safety of our animals, our organization is unable to offer these options at this time.

What are your adoption fees? Depending on the breed and age, cats are $53-$106 and dogs are $238-$500.  Our adoption fee    always includes each animal    being spayed or neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and tested for heartworm or FIV.  New adopters also receive a free nail trim  and free goodies from Petsmart, Mounds, and Tabby & Jacks!
