Congratulations on adopting your new furry companion!
We're so happy that you were able to find the right match through our organization and we'd like to personally welcome you to the SFTS family! If you have questions or concerns at any time, whether it's the day after your adoption or 2 years down the road, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can email us at adoptions@sftsrescue.org, text us at 608-620-3783, or call us at 608-284-7447 x221.
Remember the Rule Of Three! Many animals experience stress when moving into a new home so it typically takes 3 days for them to decompress, 3 weeks for them to learn a new routine, and 3 months for them to feel at home. If your new companion seems shy or scared and is refusing to eat or potty for the first 3-4 days, that's very common. However, if you're concerned, you can try using calming products, giving them a space where they can be alone (such as an open kennel with a blanket over it), and entice them to eat/drink with some broth or rotisserie chicken.
If your new family member ever runs off or gets lost, please let us know. We're more than happy to post your flyers at the shelter or share them on Facebook and can recruit volunteers to assist with finding/catching them if needed. You can create flyers for free at PawBoost and Pet FBI where they automatically add them into their database for others to find, post the flyers on their social media pages, and allow you to print them. You can also report them as missing to Petco, DCHS, HAWS, and read more about Tips For Finding Lost Pets here.
